Bypass surgery is becoming a viable method for people to loos weight who have had problems in the pass. Many people resort to bypass surgery as a last result when they have tried many different diets to lose weight but have been unsuccessful. Obesity is a dangerous health condition and some people who opt for this surgery are in danger of heart attacks or other life threatening illnesses.

Adjustable Gastric Banding also known as the lap band  consists of a hollow band made of silicone rubber is placed around the stomach near the top, this creates a small pouch and makes a small puch to the stomach Then salt is added in the band which reduces the size of the stomach.


Vertical Gastrectomy or Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, and several other names, but these two are most well known. This surgery is rare and only performed by a few surgeons worldwide. Weight loss is generated by restricting the amount of food that can be eaten. Part of the stomach is actually removed and made smaller.


Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RGB) is the most common and successful combined procedure used for weight loss surgery operations.


You also need to find a surgeon who specilizes in bypass surgery. There are many different surgeons and they usally specilize in one procedure. Its best to find a surgeon who specilizes in several different tpyes of weight loss surgery. A decision to have weight loss surgery is a very serious decision and one that should be made once you understand the implications and risks with each procedure. Having a surgeon who understands how to do several procedures means that surgeon is more quailfied to give you advice on the pros and cons of the surgery.
